Dr. Lupe Holguin Buell

Dr. Lupe Holguin Buell earned a B.A. in education from San Francisco State, an M.A. from San Diego State, and a Ph.D. in education jointly conferred by Claremont Graduate University and San Diego State University (SDSU). Her passion for education has contributed to a lifelong commitment to learning and community service.

Dr. Buell is bilingual and uses her skills to support English learners. She serves on the College of Education Department of Dual Language & English Learner Education as a credential program supervisor for single-subject student teachers at SDSU. She was a bilingual education coordinator for the San Diego County Office of Education. She also provided training in state and federal laws concerning bilingual education and language acquisition for teachers, parents, and administrators. She wrote a manual for increasing bilingual parents’ involvement at the school and district level.

Dr. Lupe Holguin Buell has served in leadership positions on multiple boards and committees. She is a longtime member of MANA de San Diego, a national Latina organization and is currently a co-chair of the MANA Latina Success Conference Committee. Most notably, she served as past chair of the Mission Federal Credit Union board which included 34 years of total service. Her years of service were recognized by the North County Philanthropy Council with the MFCU volunteer of the year award.
